This project was amazing. It was just getting green-lit when I joined Discover as a Program Manager for the Agency and Attorney family inside the Business Technology Division.

Credit Card and Banking companies move massive amounts of data, moving billions of dollars every day in millions of transactions. In my section, there was a legacy system that was made of several independent systems that were rigged together to produce a flow of critical information. This flow was both being produced by internal and external agents of the company, but also used by them. Like many mission-critical infrastructure system, over time it aged. One division over, on the Product side, there was an initiative to re-model the system using a third-party vendor that coordinate, clean and compile the data from the multitude of sources to a single daily file. Business Technology would need to architect a new flow that could accept the new formatted file daily, institute additional parity checks, and route the data to users. We’d need to make sure each of the internal systems would be able to ingest the new format, as well as the 50 Attorney offices that each had a different proprietary system they used to communicate account information securely with Discover Financial.
